Applications

CodecSys can be used to reduce bandwidth requirements by up to 75% (compared to traditional compression technologies) while improving quality for a variety of applications:

Internet Protocol Television (IPTV)

As broadband connectivity spreads around the world, IPTV is beginning to reshape the industry. In 2007, the number of households using telco / IPTV services grew to over 14 million worldwide1. That number is expected to grow to more than 80 million households by 20112. Providers who wish to survive must have the ability to deliver compelling IP based content, services, and high definition video.

CodecSys compression technology leverages the limited bandwidth typical of the DSL networks many consumers access, and makes it possible to send up to four times the video channels over the same connection, with no loss in video quality.

Broadcast and Cable

Consumers are increasingly calling upon broadcast and cable operators for access to interactive services like video on demand, online gaming, digital telephone, video streamed to the PC and much more. All of these services put an ever increasing strain on bandwidth capacity.

CodecSys compression technology solves the bandwidth crunch and enables providers to offer a greater range of advanced, competitive and revenue generating services, while adding more channels to allocated video bandwidth.

Satellite

Satellite operators are beaming rapidly increasing amounts of HD content to customers all over the world. This content must be compressed, encoded, and delivered rapidly and securely, with no loss in picture quality, at the right bit rate, and at the right price. Network operators need adaptable, future proof compression and encoding technologies that ensure an excellent video watching experience for today's savvy consumer, while limiting demands upon bandwidth.

CodecSys compression technology allows for maximum bandwidth efficiency while preserving quality of service and experience. Additionally, its evergreen hardware and open software architecture put an end to costly hardware obsolescence and re-encoding.

Mobile / Wireless

Mobile operators are also under increasing pressure to expand bandwidth capacity. Technological advances like the iPhone are boosting demand for mobile video and related services, while operating expenses related to increased bandwidth needs are rising. Mobile operators are finding it necessary to maximize their use of existing wireless and terrestrial lines while finding innovative ways to maximize compression of content.

CodecSys provides drastic compression levels resulting in the delivery of high quality video at the low resolution and frame rates required for mobile television broadcasting and streaming. Additionally, CodecSys has an ever evolving library of supported video codecs to ensure compatibility with a broad range of mobile devices.

Online Video

Whether it's recording programming to watch when it's convenient for them, watching a single, two-hour high definition movie online, or watching a live broadcast over the internet, today's consumers demand access to programming where, when, and how they want it. Service providers are finding it increasingly difficult to handle the sheer volume of data that video demands.

CodecSys offers the compression needed to make high quality video streaming to the PC a practical reality. Many current compression technologies offer only a 25% reduction in bandwidth, with compromised picture quality. CodecSys, by contrast, cuts bandwidth needs by up to 75% (compared to traditional MPEG-2 compression technologies).

CodecSys supports the video and audio compression profiles commonly used for Internet video. Our broad and ever evolving library of codecs and streaming formats means operators can chose from a wide range of target platforms.

Backhaul / Mezzanine Solutions

Backhaul: CodecSys' robust compression technology enables content distributors to increase the amount of traffic carried over a single backhaul satellite or IP connection, saving on costs related to additional satellites and fiber channels and the deployment of additional satellite and fiber links.

Mezzanine: Transporting contribution-quality HDTV requires very high quality light mezzanine compression maintaining enough quality headroom for video processing. CodecSys delivers encoded contribution video with definition suitable for digital workflow management. The use of CodecSys Intra-only compression will allow high quality HDTV signals to be squeezed into a single 100 Mbps link.
